Journey to the Dollar Store

I know what you're thinking - Dollar Store!? Well I figure since this is my first house, I'd start cheap and work my way up (who knows maybe next week Wal-Mart or maybe after a promotion I'll go to Target). Point being that why spend the money if you don't have to for a similar product. We'll see how the quality is. After some research, I found that there are some great buys at the dollar store. I mean you can't really go wrong with salt and bleach.

For my first dollar store trip, I made out like a bandit. I got:
  • a bucket for mopping
  • a spongey mop type object
  • 1 gallon of bleach
  • parchment paper
  • hand soap
  • Dawn dish soap
  • 2 sponges
  • 3 rubbermaid food holder container
  • Squeegee
And a few other things for less than $20.00. I'll test these products out and let you know if it was worth it.

What you should probably never buy from a dollar store:
  • Pet supplies
  • Baby food
  • Food in general
  • Makeup (nail polish is probably ok)
  • Toys
  • Electronics
Speaking of other cheap/FREE things. I am huge fan of lists. I have 3 working calendars and two planners. Here are some really awesome free things that I've found:

If you use Google Drive at all, this is an awesome addition. As a writer, without Microsoft, Google Drive fills that void and provides word processing, spreadsheets and more. The best thing about it is that you can access your documents anywhere you have your Google account. Earlier this month, Google Drive released templates and now my world has changed.

For example, there's a Wedding Planner template, resume template, and most importantly a budgeting template. I will work the budget template and let you all know how it works. Check it out here: https://drive.google.com/templates.

Another great list I found was this awesome "What to buy" for your first home/apartment. After living with the parents for so long I have no idea where to even start with shopping. So I started with this list and will go from there.

I am also a huge fan of samples - I am a member of CrowdTap and Influenster. I get an insanely large amount of samples from these groups. Though I have been a member of these sites for years, which probably increases my chances of reviewing products. You gotta start from somewhere and those are definitely my recommendations.

Where do you go to buy random home things? Are the Costco's/Sam's Club/BJ's memberships worth it?
